Welcome to Chilliwack Minor Hockey Association’s Officiating Page!

This is the place for those interested to learn more about how to become a new official or returning officials wanting to continue.

Under new officiating leadership, Chilliwack Minor Hockey strives to heavily focus on the development of younger, brand new officials, along with the more experienced referees seeking additional knowledge and skills to become confident, courageous and successful officials.

We offer a greatly experienced development team of supervisors/shadows that will be working very closely with officials, working on achieving their personal goals.

Are you interested in becoming a referee?

CMHA and Hockey Canada are in need of new officials that are fully committed and wishing for a new, fun role in the game of hockey.

The game is continually growing, and each year we need to bring in new officials all across Canada to keep pace with the everlasting demand and ensure hockey stays safe and fair for everyone.

Refereeing can be an extremely rewarding experience, and we encourage anyone who is interested to sign up for an HCOP clinic.

If your child is 12-years old or older (turning 12 next hockey season), they are eligible to become a referee!

New officials must register for Hockey University - Officiating Online Modules. You’re required to fully complete this course, as it is a prerequisite to joining an HCOP clinic and becoming a referee.

Requirements

You must be minimum 12 Years Old to become an official, you will be asked to take a referee clinic. If you are interested in proceeding the clinic cost is approximately $100. Please follow the steps below to proceed with becoming an official.

Currently Chilliwack MHA does have a waitlist. We can only take 15 kids per season. This sometimes varies based on age groups applying.

1. Contact your local RIC for the upcoming clinic. The clinic is usually end of August or in September.

1. The RIC will instruct you to register online for Hockey Canada's referee tutorial. This is a 3 hour tutorial that must be completed before you can officially register in the referee clinic.

2. Register in the clinic. This is where the cost will be charged. This cost covers the instructor fee as well as room rental and snacks for the clinic.
3. Attend the clinic. No exceptions can be made and there is no time off from the clinic. You are not able to miss a few hours during the clinic, please make sure your calendar is free.
4. Contact your referee in chief. Many people take the clinic, and sometimes people fall through the cracks. The best way to make sure you don't is to contact your RIC, make sure you are on the list and they know you exist.
5. In Chilliwack: There is a start up meeting. This is to understand the on line assigning procedures, you will not have access to the assignment site until PCAHA sets you up. Your RIC will inform you of this information when it is available.
6. Have a great season.
